Elsbeth,

Thanks for this post! People always forget about the small stuff! Its like the snowball effect for some of those things you described. It might not be a big deal when looked at individually, but over time things like how you unload the dishwasher can have a significant impact on your posture and the way your body moves.

Speaking of TPI, the Golf Fitness Academy just did an episode on alignment, really great stuff coming from those guys.

Hey Elsbeth-

Congratson SC.com.
Welcome to the Sport of Golf.

Just looked at video of your swing. I have started working on the biomechanics of my own golf swing- I have only played 18 games in last 5 years.
Who is your golf pro? (The trick is to find a good teaching pro who doesn't have a fragile ego.)
As I told Dave Phillips at TPI- a man (sic woman) who can putt is a match for anyone. I am not sure that I even agree with the way the game is taught-it may be taught bass-ackwards..

Talk soon,
Cheers,
Gary,

Great post and so true! I find that without sporting goals for the year I lack the motivation to do meaningful training. This year's stretch goal for me is my first half-iron triathlon. It's particularly important for my non-sporting life - if I have sporting goals the rest of my life seems more focused and successful too. Another trick is to have a follow-on goal planned for when you complete a big goal, without that I get a post-goal slump.

[...] Best time of day to foam roll? That depends. Some people recommend it at the start of your workout; and others at the end of the workout. Personally I tend to recommend it as “homework” so that clients don’t’ rush through it. It can be done very comfortably on the living room floor while watching TV. One thing to note is that you shouldn’t roll your back first thing in the morning. This is due to your discs being “full” first thing in the morning, as I mentioned in this article about low back pain.
Our kids had a great Shinny memory made this past weekend (Jan 15-18) at their tournament in Detroit. Our kids are Mites, so they are 7 and 8 year olds. They were all playing shinny in the hallway of the Hyatt in Dearborn after having just returned to the hotel from the Hawks vs. Redwings game at Joe Louis Arena. They were really into their shinny game, having to send someone from the 4th floor to the 2nd floor many times to retrieve the ball that fell below. As they were playing, their coach came up and informed them that Brett Lebda, #22 for the Redwings, was downstairs in our hotel lobby. All the kids grabbed their shinnys and sharpies and headed down the elevators. Brett signed all of their shinny sticks, pucks, hats, shirts, etc. They were thrilled, and he was very gracious. We parents appreciated his kindness to these kids who idolize the NHL players. It was a great shinny moment for sure! It must have been good luck too, because the next day they won the championship. Thanks, Brett!
