Category: Training for sports

Raise your hand if this sounds like you:

You book a great week-long ski vacation somewhere out west. Maybe Heavenly? Lake Louise? Whistler? You can’t stop thinking about knee deep powder, and 3,000+ vertical feet, and runs that take half an hour to ski down. Then you start thinking about that, and you remember the last ski vacation you took:

  • Your legs were tired by lunchtime on the first day;
  • You woke up on day 2 and they felt like cement pillars but you pushed through.

Ski Assessment

Category: Training Basics
Skier in the half pipe

Are you exhausted at the end of a day on the slopes? Sore back? Would love to ski the bumps all day but your body does not? My Alpine Ski-Specific Assessment and Program Design Package
is what you need.

Do you have any video of your skiing? If so, bring it! It provides an even better picture for me to see you move both in the clinic and on the hill (remember I’m not just a strength and conditioning speicalist – I’m also a ski instructor!)

Alpine Ski-Specific Assessment and Program Design Package

This package includes a Functional Movement Screen, ski assessment (if you have the video), and a custom strength and conditioning program created based on your availability and needs.

Moguls!

Here’s how it works:

  • Book two sessions with me at Ottawa Osteopathy & Sports Therapy (613-521-3222).
  • Bring a video clip of you skiing (link to a youtube video).
  • We will watch the ski video together and discuss your goals, injury and sports history, and the time you can commit to training
  • I will assess you with the FMS and a couple of other functional tests to identify dysfunctional movement patterns and muscle imbalances.
  • Before your next session, I will use all of the information we have just gathered to create a custom strength and conditioning program for you. The program will include corrective exercises to specifically address your imbalances, as well as strength and conditioning exercises to improve your skiing.
  • As a special bonus, I will provide you with two versions of the program warm-up: one for when you are at the gym, and one for when you are on the hill.
  • At your second session, I will review your test results with you and discuss how it relates to your skiing.
  • I will also provide you with a handout that includes your test results, your custom Strength & Conditioning program, and descriptions and photos of the exercises in the program.
  • At this session I will also go through the full program with you and have you try each of the exercises and provide guidance on form.

Remember that your skis are only able to move the way your body is able to move; so correct the body movement and you can correct the ski movement!
